When all's said and done, this is what the Sabres ended up receiving for Regier's core

(edited 5-19-14 after a report from WGR saying the Blues will not re-sign Ryan Miller)
(edited--NY Islanders GM Garth Snow keeps pick No. 5 in 2014 electing to send the Buffalo Sabres their 2015 1st round pick as part of the Thomas Vanek trade)

La Core is no more.

Over the course of two years and through two GM's that "vaunted" group of Rochester Guys drafted and developed by former GM Darcy Regier has been completely dismantled.

Five core players and eight trades involving either them or a return for them has brought us to a bottom line as to what they were finally worth.

But before the bottom line, we'll take go through all the trades involved.

Onward with the trades.

Paul Gaustad and a 2013 4th round (G, Juuse Saros) for a 2012 1st:
  • The 2012 1st round pick turned out to be #21. That pick was traded to Calgary along with #42 to the Flames for their 1st rounder (#14) and their second rounder (#44.) The Sabres selected C, Zemgus Girgensons and D, Jake McCabe respectively.
In effect: Gaustad for Girgensons

Derek Roy traded to Dallas for veterans Steve Ott and Adam Pardy
  • Ott was traded along with Ryan Miller to St. Louis (see below)
  • After one season with Buffalo Pardy signed a one year deal to play in Winnipeg this season

Jason Pominville traded to the Minnesota Wild for C, Johan Larsson, G, Matt Hackett a 2013 first round pick and a 2014 second round pick:
  • Both Larsson and Hackett are with the Rochester Americans
  • The 2013 1st rounder was #16 which the Sabres used to select D, Nikita Zadorov
  • 2014 2nd rounder (TBD.) This pick will be sent to St. Louis if conditions met in the Miller/Ott trade (see below)

Thomas Vanek traded to the NY Islanders for Matt Moulson, a conditional 1st rounder and a 2015 2nd rounder:
  • Matt Moulson and Cody McCormick traded to Minnesota for F, Torrey Mitchell, a 2014 2nd rounder and a 2016 2nd rounder
  • The Sabres will receive the NYI 1st round pick in 2015. The Islanders finished in the bottom-10 in the league this season and opted to keep their 2014, No. 5-overall pick.
In effect: Vanek and McCormick for Torrey Mitchell, a 1st and three 2nds.

Ryan Miller and Steve Ott to St. Louis for G, Jaroslav Halak, F, Chris Stewart, F, William Carrier, a 2015 1st and a conditional 2016 3rd:
  • Goalie Halak and a 2015 3rd then traded to Washington for G, Michal Neuvirth and D, Rostislav Kelsla. Klesla failed to report to the Amerks, was suspended by the Sabres and is now in Europe
  • The conditional 2016 3rd would become a 2014 1st if either Miller re-signs, is traded or the Blues make it to the Western Conference Finals. If Miller signs with St. Louis after July 1, the 2016 3rd becomes a 2nd.
  • Should the conditions be met and the Sabres receive a 2014 1st from St. Louis, the Blues will get a 2014 2nd rounder (MIN) and 3rd rounder.
Conditions not met as the Blues do not advance to the WCF and they opt not to re-sign Miller. Conditional pick is a 2016 3rd.

In effect:  Roy and Miller for Pardy, Stewart, Carrier, Neuvirth and 1st with an exchange of third-rounders.

All-in-all the trades come out to Gaustad, Roy, Pominville, Vanek and Miller along with a 3rd and 4th round pick and McCormick for eight players--Pardy, Larsson, Hackett, Mitchell, Stewart, Carrier, Neuvirth and Klesla, four 1st round picks (with two, Girgensons and Zadorov, already drafted) plus three second rounders and a third rounder.

I'd say that's a pretty good haul.
